The Sanctuary Shop: Tools For the In-Between Place
Share
'm Elisha, your host, a counselor, an author, and someone who has sat in the same stuck places you have.
If you've been listening for a while, I see you and I'm glad that you're back. If you're new here, welcome home.
Today's episode is practical. Clinical, but pastoral.
So stay with me.
Why I built a shop, not just a shelf
Knowledge isn't just power for trauma survivors — knowledge is safety.
In my counseling office, women tell me the same thing in different words:
"I understand it in my head, but my body still panics." "I know I should pray, but I can't settle enough to pray." "I'm doing the life after divorce work, but I feel behind."
Nothing is wrong with you. Your body is doing exactly what it was designed to do. It's just stuck.
I created The Sanctuary Shop by Elisha's Space for that stuck, transitional space — the disorienting place between struggling and healing. Not to replace Christian therapy or counseling, but to give you rhythms you can touch, hold, color, and read at 2am when your nervous system won't settle.
His peace is not dependent on your circumstances being resolved. It is a regulated nervous system in the presence of a safe God.
How to build your sanctuary rhythm — S.A.F.E. + H.O.M.E.
I don't believe in just listing pain without giving you a guide forward.
S — Sense: What does your body need today? Activation needs calming (coloring, breath prayer). Shutdown needs gentle mobilizing (walk + Scripture aloud, cold water).
A — Assess: Are you in crisis, processing, or rebuilding? Crisis = Handbook chapter + counselor + safety plan. Processing = coloring + journaling. Rebuilding life after divorce = boundaries + community.
F — Filter: Does this tool produce clarity or confusion? Keep what settles you. Put down what spikes you, even if it's popular.
E — Establish: One small, observable rhythm. Example: "I will read one Handbook page and color one affirmation before phone time for 7 days."
That is my H.O.M.E. Framework in action — Honor your limits, Orient to safety, Micro-moments of regulation, Expect gradual growth.
Faith for the waiting room
"And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." — Philippians 4:7
Father, I am grateful that you made these bodies, that you knit together the very nervous systems that we are learning to regulate. Teach us to wait with clarity, not hypervigilance. Amen.
Your 7-day challenge
- Morning: 1 page from The Mental Health Handbook
- Midday: Hands on chest, 4 slow breaths
- Evening: 1 coloring affirmation, no phone in bed
Until next time, you are not too much, and you are not too far, and you are not alone.
